The role of the Fondation Sophia Antipolis is multiple. Naturally and efficiently, the structure must answer the needs of Sophia Antipolis. In parallel, it must represent a worldwide center of excellence and embody a sign of modernity.
The multiple global networks, the innovative skills of large groups, the start-up companies and the academic areas must, on the one hand, be connected with local and national governments and, on the other hand, make an effort to be better perceived by the population.
Today, the public cannot ignore that its future is linked to innovation, an essential bulwark against job losses and providing solutions, often unrecognized, to critical issues (security, education, health ...).
Taking into account the needs of everyone, the knowledge of technical developments and emerging issues including the need to change our lifestyle, for example, the consumption of fossil energy, sustainable development but also new links between third-world, developing countries and developed countries, all this in need of intermediation thus listening, availability and responsiveness.
Our teams try their best to fulfill these needs whilst cooperating as best as possible with everyone.

Created in 1984 and declared as a public utility, the Fondation Sophia Antipolis fulfils a fundamental task on the Sophia Antipolis site: the scientific and cultural organisation of the park.
Its objective is to facilitate exchange and long-term reflections in the areas of science, industry and culture at a French, European and international level.
In 2004 the Fondation Sophia Antipolis changed its status to “Fondation of sheltering research”, which enables it to create research foundations around research projects. These sheltered foundations encourage public/private partnership for the funding of research.
The Fondation Sophia Antipolis bases itself in launching and confronting ideas by opening different fields of reflection. This is achieved by organising symposiums, seminars, and themed breakfast mornings.
The Fondation Sophia Antipolis is organised in several departments:
- Organisation and management of scientific and economic events
- Training and telecommunications
- Culture and Communication
- International
The Friends Association of the Fondation Sophia Antipolis has a non lucrative goal. It was created in 1969 under the name “Association Sophia Antipolis” by Pierre Laffitte. At the beginning it was responsible of the organisation and management of scientific, artistic and cultural activities.
It is part of the historical creation of the park and owner of the collective brands, “Sophia”, “Sophia Antipolis” and “Sophipolitain”.
The management of this brand is ensured by a committee designated by the General Assembly. The Association Sophia Antipolis attempts to support the development of a collective cultural and scientific life. It is facilitated throughout the channel of the Association of the French cities of Sophia Antipolis and the integration of new people on the site.
The membership to the association allows people:
- to receive monthly newsletter "Nouvelles de Sophia Antipolis",
- to be informed and receive invitations to the various cultural events, conferences, training courses, seminars, meetings, meetings of clubs which are held on the site.
- to defend the international image of Sophia Antipolis.
- to suggest any action allowing to reinforce user-friendliness on the site.
People or entities who wish to become a member of the Association will be able to acquire the quality of “Associates” only after approval of the committee of admission designated by the Board of Directors.
